A Culture of Caring

At Giant, our culture is one of professional, friendly service – service to our customers and service to the communities where we live and work. We continually foster a culture of giving by working as a team and being supportive of each other.

A Giant Commitment to Fighting Hunger
For over 25 years, Giant has been one of the largest corporate supporters of our local food banks, helping feed hungry families in our area. Over the past 18 years, the company has sponsored the Giant Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive. The Good Neighbor program offers Giant customers the opportunity to make non-perishable food and monetary donations to their local food bank at Giant. Giant customers set a record when they donated over $390,000 and 150,000 pounds of food to area food banks during Giant’s 2005 Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive.

Good Neighbor Food & Funds Drive

As part of the evolution of Giant’s Good Neighbor program, the company launched an innovative Hunger Box program in 2003 to assist local food banks. Through the generosity of our customers, the 2005 Hunger Box program resulted in 16,500 Hunger Boxes, filled with quality food items specifically needed by good banks, being sold and donated to local food banks.

Nourishing the Mind Through Educational Support

For the past 16 years, Giant has given cash grants and educational equipment valued at over $73 million to local schools through the company’s A+ BonusBucks Program.

Since 1967, Giant has sponsored It’s Academic, a TV quiz show where high school teams compete for scholarship grants. Through Giant’s sponsorship, the 171 secondary schools that compete on the program have been awarded over $2.5 million in scholarship grants. The Guinness Book of World Records has certified It’s Academic as the world’s longest-running television quiz show! Watch it Saturday morning at 10 am on NBC 4 in Washington and WJZ 13 in Baltimore.

Helping Children Stay Well

Triple Winner – is the single largest fundraiser for The Jimmy Fund and is one of the most successful cause marketing programs in the country. Since its beginning, Triple Winner has raised more than $24 million to help children with cancer and search for a cure. During the program all Giant stores offer Triple Winner Game tickets for a $1 donation. 100% of all proceeds goes directly to The Jimmy Fund and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Providing Local, National and Global Assistance

For over 25 years, Giant has been the largest corporate supporter of the Children’s Cancer Foundation, an organization committed to raising funds for research and treatment of children’s cancer. Over $20 million has been raised for the Children’s Cancer Foundation since its founding in 1979.

Following the tsunamis in Southeast Asia and East Africa, and Hurricane Katrina, Giant donated over $1 million to assist the victims of these natural disasters. This corporate contribution was in addition to over $1 million that was donated by Giant customers and associates.

Giant also contributed over $700,000 to assist U.S. veterans wounded in the war against terrorism through the sale of commemorative “Hero” bracelets.

These our just a few of the many community and charitable initiatives that Giant has supported. Whether it’s providing support for area food banks, schools, cancer research, or assisting those impacted by natural disasters, Giant continues to be there to help!
